Get to Know Matt:
What is something few people know about you? I have acrophobia. In college I took a job working at a grain elevator and even worked two summers as a commercial roofer but I still couldn’t snap myself out of it.
What is your favorite place to visit? Hecla, SD. I own a small piece of hallowed ground adjacent to the Sand Lake National Wildlife Refuge. It has been in my family for over 70 years and has been passed down through the generations. It is a staging area for migratory birds, which if you time it right, is spectacular. It has limited phone and internet, no running water, and in the world we live in, that’s wonderful sometimes.
What is a chore you absolutely hate doing? Chores are an essential part of growing up and learning to take responsibility. That being said, cleaning out my smoker after hosting a get together is one thing I can’t even place a numerical value on. There have been times where I have considered throwing the whole thing away altogether. It has been a part of some great events so I guess I’ll continue to take the good with the bad.
