Thank you to those of you who were able to attend the Protecting Yourself from Cybercrime event live with Adam Moseley on October 15th. We hope you found the information valuable. Adam did a wonderful job explaining the importance of cybersecurity. If you were unable to attend the event live, or would like to re-watch the session or share with friends or family, please see the replay link below. Also attached is a quick guide on Cyber Security for your reference.
Adam did unfortunately lose connection toward the end of the presentation but has answered the questions that were sent in and missed. The answers to those questions can also be seen below.

YOUR SUBMITTED QUESTIONS ANSWERED:
If my debit card is a Visa, what is the difference between using debit vs. credit card.
Question on debit card security, why is a debit card less secure than a cc? Also is it better to use a pin with a debit vs bypassing the pin #?
Adam: I am not sure about the difference or if it matters, but it is easier to take care of fraud on a credit card than in your bank account. Your bank account holds your cash, and I personally don’t want my cash tied up.
How do you handle online bill pay or banking to be safest?
Adam: Bill pay from your bank is safe. I also allow auto withdrawals for monthly bills through my bank. Sending checks through the mail is not safe.
Is sharing your accounts in Quicken an issue?
Adam: I would not share accounts in any app. Is it an issue, maybe not if you totally trust who you share it with, but once it is shared you have given up total control.
What about using a browser like DuckDuckGo.com is it worth it?
Adam: DuckDuckGo is good a hiding your actions online and for awhile was one of the only ways to do so. Now there are many more options – other browsers have Private Browsing (Safari) or if you use a VPN, your activity is encrypted so others cannot see your activity.
Can Adam provide an answer to the last question around FB.
Adam: Finishing the last question before I lost my WiFi connection, be careful, be careful who you accept as friends on social media. Bad actors do research, and social media lends legitimacy to their scam. Example, they see you are in Costa Rica, and they call your loved ones asking for money.
